The Benefits of Cold Laser

Over the years many people have asked me what the benefits of cold laser are. Others are simply happy knowing that it benefits your horse and don’t need or want to know further details. Either way, I wanted to write a post about the very thing I use every day on your horses. Aside from the benefits of bodywork with my hands, cold laser increases that work exponentially. Cold laser provides pain relief for those sore muscles, it reduces inflammation that may be present in those same muscles or recovering from an injury, it accelerates healing in the tissues, and most importantly it’s non-invasive and safe. Making it an approved device for FEI competition.

Technically speaking, cold laser uses light-emitting diodes to stimulate healing at a cellular level. The therapy promotes the release of NO (Nitric Oxide). This is what puts the horse in his parasympathetic state. The natural state of healing. Hence increasing circulation and decreasing inflammation, promoting pain relief that is quick and effective.

Inflammation is common in our performance horses. Not only in their legs but often in their backs. Cold laser helps reduce inflammation by increasing blood flow and lymphatic drainage in the affected area. This improves the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the tissues while speeding up the removal of waste products, resulting in reduced swelling and inflammation.

One of the main reasons I love using cold laser so much, is that it accelerates healing. Today our performance horses are asked to do a lot and keeping them performing at their best takes a village. Cold laser promotes cellular regeneration and increased circulation which accelerates the healing process. By stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, the therapy aids in the repair of damaged tissues and promotes the growth of new cells.

Cold laser therapy can be used to treat a wide range of health conditions, making it a versatile treatment option. Whether managing chronic pain, promoting wound healing, or alleviating inflammation, cold laser offers a customizable treatment plan for all my performance horses.

The advantage of using my particular cold laser is that it’s classified as a Class 3b, meaning that it is allowed in FEI competitions. As a PET (permitted equine therapist), this allows me access to the CDI barns to work on those performance horses with a laser that is non-invasive and safe. And it’s incredibly portable and easy to use, which is key when walking all over the show grounds. In a nutshell, cold laser doesn’t produce heat or cause discomfort.
